Students will be guided through traditional yoga postures with different options and variations given as necessary according to your level of practice. We also include lots of focus on developing the breath with the ultimate intention of uniting the breath with the movement of the body.  Adjustments are given throughout the class as necessary. This class finishes with meditation.

A 60 minute instructed class taking students through the foundational postures of ashtanga yoga. In this class we will explore the fundamental aspects of the practice – including alignment, breath and inward focus. Adjustments will be given as necessary.  This class is also great for those new to the practice of ashtanga yoga.

Ashtanga vinyasa is a traditional system of yoga transmitted to the world by the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures — a process producing intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs.  Adjustments are given as necessary and options are given according to your level of practice.

This class is fully guided and includes exploration of different breathing techniques, various forms of meditation which range from silent meditation to chanting as well as philosophy. Every week is slightly different. No prior meditation experience required.

I have been practicing yoga at Ourano Yoga for 3 years now and I can honestly say that the yoga classes here have been instrumental in some big changes I have made in my life. Ourania creates a calm and spiritual environment of possibility and practicality. Sincerity and warmth is always expressed and felt at Ourano Yoga – a place of unconditional love, joy and growth, an environment of total respect.

After 3 years I feel I am only just “getting” some of the moves……It has taken me a long time to calm down and take things gradually – to stop expecting overnight changes and comparing myself with others. Yoga is something that needs to be done at your own individual pace – physically and mentally.

Ourania’s teaching method is very encouraging and motivating. Her classes, for me, are enjoyable while providing the opportunity for personal, physical, spiritual and mental development with my practice. Ourania brings her incredibly deep and extensive knowledge from the varied traditions that she has studied and continues to study and developed her own variations which she conveys in a clear and concise manner.

I did not think I could enjoy yoga more and then along came Alan with Ashtanga yoga which I am totally addicted to. It is a strong practice but I love the challenge and I love the experience of improvement at my own pace. I am impressed with Alan’s deep knowledge of Ashtanga yoga as a science and a philosophy both on an individual level and a class level – not just a physical exercise but as a means to enhance self-awareness at a very personal level in every day life.

I believe there is one thing that has made a huge impact on my practice and that is having “one on one” tuition. To have my yoga poses ‘corrected’ on me, personally, has given me a very strong and clear direction. Even doing simple moves like ‘downward facing dog’ can be enhanced when you receive the correct physical placement ………sometimes it is just confirmation that what you are doing is correct.

Both Ourania and Alan continuously emphasize the basic but essential Yoga principles such as the importance of the connection of movement and breath together with alignment.

I believe I have the best of both worlds with Ourania and Alan – I do a class with each of them every week and I love them both – the classes and the teachers. It is a privilege to be taught by these inspiring yogi’s. My body feels so much stronger and my mind feels so much calmer due to my slowly developing yoga practice. Thank you Ourania and Alan for being the beautiful spirits that you are and sharing yourself, your knowledge, your dedication and your inspiration with me and all your other devoted followers.

I have been practicing yoga with Ourania and Alan for about 18 months now and I am so grateful that I chose the Ourano Yoga Studio to try yoga. I have always found Ourania and Alan to be welcoming and respectful of everyone who walks through their studio door and they are always willing to help you practice yoga in a way that is suitable to your needs.

Alan taught my first ever yoga class which I really enjoyed and I still love his classes.  It has been inspiring to see Alan’s teaching style grow and develop over the time I have been attending the studio and I sense that this has come from the dedication he has to developing his own practice.  He is always keen to help you improve and develop your practice and I find the adjustments and verbal cues really helpful during class. Alan’s classes are challenging but I have found from regular attendance my strength, flexibility and focus have improved and I am really loving the challenge.

Ourania’s classes are beautiful and relaxing.  I often find the sequencing of poses and Ourania’s instruction to be quite graceful and helpful in connecting the mind, body and spirit. I especially enjoy listening to Ourania speak about all that is yoga and philosophy.  There is so much that you can take away from her class such as calming breathing techniques, words of wisdom and simple yoga poses that you can do at home.  Her teaching comes from years of practicing yoga and her study of various healing traditions.

It has been such a wonderful experience practicing yoga at the Ourano yoga studio.  Ourania and Alan are such wonderful and dedicated teachers that encourage and inspire you to make simple and positive changes in your life.  Then one day you realise that all of those simple changes have added up and that you feel so much better than when you first began.
